Reminder

Just a reminder that our final class for 2014 is on this Saturday, 10 am to 12 noon. For those who cannot make it, I will post a complete "how to" on the Christmas letter after the class.

Here is a link to the incomplete how to for those who are interested.

Thank you all for your support and enthusiasm this year. I'll be posting about classes for next year in early 2015 so keep an eye on your inbox!

Mac Users news

Plenty of news for you all!

The Mac Beginners class starts again tomorrow at 10 am at the Neighbourhood Centre. The Club has found a new tutor so it's full steam ahead.

Final two classes for our group will be on: Saturday 1 November and Saturday 6 December. As we discussed last time, we will put together a Christmas letter and/or card at the November class and who knows what we will do for the December class!

I'm sure there will be some questions about the new OSX for Mac, Yosemite. I ran the update today and so far so good! I'll have some details at the next class about and also some helpful info about Mavericks and updating iPhoto and iMovie. I have had some problems with this, and would like to share how to fix it!

And...here's a really wonderful article at the joys of technology for all ages:

Update on classes

Hi everyone,

Good news and bad news. Good news is that I've been offered an 8 week contract with the local health service library where I have just finished placement! Bad news it I will be working on Tuesdays. I am currently speaking with the computer club to organise catch up days as I won't be able to teach the next two classes (2 September and 7 October). Stay tuned for details but I am thinking about Saturday morning or afternoon.

Later tonight I will send out the "how to" on setting up a nice Word document.

Thank you for your support,

Sally

Mac user group on 2 June

Yes that's right, Monday is the first Monday of the month so that means that Tuesday is the first Tuesday of the month which equals Mac User Group.

Bring your questions and ideas. I'll bring the terrible jokes.

Monday, May 5, 2014

It's the first Tuesday of the month tomorrow!

So that means we are meeting! Topic...let's try Pinterest again. I promise we won't get distracted organising Lorraine's holiday! Bring your organising ideas, see you at 10 am.

March class

(quote picture made with Canva!)

This morning we looked at Canva, a new graphic design tool similar to PicMonkey and had a tour around Pinterest.

Canva has some simple tutorials on good graphic design as well as a good help page (not quite a support line but better than nothing!)

The Pinterest basics page explains the ins and outs of Pinterest and is a good introduction if you're still not sure what it's all about. And the Goodies page has the link to set up a Pin It button in your web browser (just scroll down a little). There are also apps for iPad and iPhone if you are keen.

If you would like to improve your typing, I can recommend playing typing games (these games are on a children's website, but are great). I know, it sounds a bit odd, but games make learning fun! And if you want to improve your mouse skills, you can't go wrong with playing card games like Solitaire.

Next month we will spend the first hour (perhaps more) on Pinterest, setting up an account if you don't have one already, creating boards, finding people to follow and pinning from all over the internet. Even if you aren't that keen on being online, you can always just setup the account up for the day and then delete it.

One final link for when you're having a cuppa! See you in April.

Update on classes for 2014

Hi everyone,

Hope you've had a great Christmas and New Year. Classes are continuing this year with a slightly different format. Mac Beginners will move to Mondays at 10 am with a new teacher. The class that used to be on Monday mornings will now be called Mac User Group and will be held monthly on Tuesday mornings at 10 am in the small computer room.

Just to confuse matters slightly, the first User Group will be on Wednesday 5 February (there aren't any available rooms on the Tuesday of that week). The class will then be every first Tuesday of the month, 10 am to 12 noon.

So, let's see if I've got that right:

Mac Beginners, Monday 10 am to 12 noon (weekly, as per computer club)

Mac User Group, every first Tuesday of the month, 10 am to 12 noon. EXCEPT! February where the class will be on Wednesday 5th Feb.

As always, please email me if you have any queries or problems. I am going to start creating a new website for seniors and technology so if you have any ideas or questions you'd like answered, send them in!
